The Hydraulic Setting Tool (HST) is engineered for setting packers and plugs in place of traditional wireline methods, offering a streamlined hydraulic alternative to tools like the Baker E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly. It uses the same adapter kits as wireline setups and allows for tubing-conveyed deployment. After reaching the desired depth, a ball is dropped to initiate setting, and applied pressure activates the setting pistons. This process is enhanced with the option of applying tubing tension and adding extra pistons to reduce setting pressure.
